The chemical formula of Ectoine is 2-methyl-1,4,5,6,-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid, also known as tetrahydropyrimidine, which is a new type of water-soluble amphoteric discovered in 1985 Ionic amino acid derivatives. In 1985, Galinski used nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry to identify and isolate ectoine in halophilic bacteria for the first time. At high salt concentrations, Ectoine acts as an osmotic pressure compensation solute that accumulates in some halophilic bacteria to resist the changes of high osmotic pressure in the external environment.
