Ⅰ,Introduction of salicin
Salicylic acid, also known as o-hydroxybenzoic acid, is an important organic synthesis intermediate, widely used in medicine, rubber, preservatives, color developers, dyes, spices and other fields. Salicylic acid is especially used in the pharmaceutical industry, and is an important material in the production of aspirin. Salicin has antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic effects. It also has bitter stomachic and local anesthetic effects. It can also be used as a biochemical reagent. Salicin has aspirin-like properties and is a potent anti-inflammatory ingredient traditionally used to heal wounds and relieve muscle pain. It has been found that salicin is an oxidase inhibitor, has anti-wrinkle, increase skin luster and elasticity, reduce pigmentation, increase skin moisture, etc. It has anti-aging, exfoliating and acne skin care effects in cosmetics.
Ⅱ,Chemical properties of salicin
Salicin is white crystal; bitter taste; melting point 199 ~ 202 ℃, specific spin [α] She-45.6 ° (0.6 g / 100 cm 3 anhydrous ethanol); soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, insoluble in ethanol (1:90), insoluble in ether or chloroform, but soluble in alkaline solution, pyridine or glacial acetic acid. Its aqueous solution is neutral reaction, no free phenolic hydroxyl group in the molecule, belongs to phenolic glycosides. Hydrolyzed by dilute acid or bitter almond enzyme, it can produce glucose and salicyl alcohol. Salicyl alcohol molecular formula for C7H8O2; for rhombohedral colorless needle crystal; melting point 86 ~ 87 ℃; heat to 100 ℃ sublimation; soluble in water, benzene, soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform; red when sulfuric acid.
Ⅲ,Effects
1. Treatment of fever, colds and infections
As a "natural aspirin", salicin is used to treat mild fevers, colds, infections (influenza), acute and chronic rheumatic complaints, headaches and pain due to inflammation. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), a synthetic substitute for salicin, has potentially dangerous side effects on the stomach and intestines. As its natural configuration, salicin passes harmlessly through the gastrointestinal system and is converted to salicylic acid in the blood and liver. The conversion process takes several hours, so the results are not immediately felt by the body, but the effects generally last for several hours.
2. Reduces arthritic pain and low back pain
Salicin is believed to be the source of white willow bark's anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing abilities. The pain-relieving power of white willow bark is usually slower to take effect but lasts longer than the effects of common aspirin products. One trial found that a class of herbal compounds containing 100 ng of salicin was effective in improving pain relief in arthritis patients after two months of continuous use. Another trial found that a daily intake of 1360mg of white willow bark extract (containing 240mg of salicin) for two weeks resulted in better efficacy in treating joint pain and/or arthritis. The use of high doses of white willow bark extract may also help relieve low back pain. A four-week trial found that white willow bark extract containing 240 mg of salicin was effective in reducing the worsening of low back pain.
Ⅳ,Salicin Effects and Harms
The most important effect of salicin is the treatment of fever. It is very suitable to be used to regulate people's fever if it is caused by colds or infections. It is also known as natural aspirin. In addition to this, people who use salicin wisely can also play a role in reducing the feeling of pain in the joints, and it can also alleviate the pain in the lower back.
The exfoliation effect of salicin is also very good. In real life, many friends may be too rough skin, if you insist on using a period of time added salicin cosmetics can also play a certain role in regulating. However, it should be noted that if you overuse salicin, then there may be a certain impact on health, a small number of patients will also be upset stomach and spleen.
Ⅴ,Do Salicin and Salicylic Acid Work the Same?
Salicin and salicylic acid do not work the same way. Salicylic acid can play the role of exfoliation, it is widely used in the field of cosmetics. In addition to exfoliation, salicin is also very effective in relieving colds and fevers.
Ⅵ,What is the role and harm of salicin?
The medicinal value of salicin is very high, it can relieve pain, but also can play a role in moisturizing the skin. However, if people use it excessively, it may produce a certain degree of dependence, and some friends may also have gastrointestinal discomfort. In addition, salicin is not suitable for children. Salicin is a natural product that can be extracted from willow bark, ash trees and other plants. Salicylic acid, on the other hand, is an organic compound commonly used in medicines and cosmetics.
Ⅶ,There are two main methods for converting salicin to salicylic acid:
1. Hydrolysis method: react salicin with dilute sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide solution to decompose it into sugar and salicylic acid. The specific steps are as follows:
(1) Add an appropriate amount of salicin to dilute sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide solution;
(2) Let stand at room temperature for several hours to overnight;
(3) Filtering to obtain a pale yellow solution;
(4) Adjust the pH to about 7-8 with an alkaline solution to precipitate out the sugar which has not reacted completely;
(5) Filter again and wash the precipitate to obtain pure salicylic acid.
2. Oxidation method: React salicin with potassium permanganate or other strong oxidizing agents, and under the catalytic action of horseradish peroxidase, which is an environmentally friendly catalyst, salicin is oxidized to salicylic acid under alkaline conditions. The specific steps are as follows:
(1) Add an appropriate amount of salicin to a potassium permanganate solution;
(2) Allow to stand at room temperature until the color becomes lighter or the reaction is complete;
(3) Adding an alkaline solution (e.g. sodium hydroxide) to adjust the pH to about 7-8, so as to precipitate out the un-reacted sugars and permanganate, etc;
(4) Filter and wash the precipitate to obtain pure salicylic acid.
It should be noted that, in the process of experimental operation should pay attention to safety, and follow the relevant regulations for the treatment and disposal of waste.
Ⅷ,Application of salicin
1,Anti-aging
Salicin not only affects the regulation of genes in the skin, but also regulates the gene groups related to the biological process of skin aging, which are known as the functional "young gene cluster". In addition, salicin plays an important role in the production and maintenance of collagen, one of the key proteins in the skin, so it can increase the elasticity of the skin to achieve anti-wrinkle effect.
2,Exfoliating
Salicin has the effect of mildly removing dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, accelerating the shedding of aging skin cells, regulating the physiological activity of the skin stratum corneum, and regulating the improvement of dandruff.
3, antibacterial anti-inflammatory acne
Salicin has a good anti-inflammatory effect because of its aspirin-like properties, so it has a good balance of the skin flora, improve the efficacy of excess oil, and become the first choice of products focusing on plant extract oil control. And because of its good oil control effect, mild skin care widely loved by the market, such as sk-ll soothing skin care cleansing cream, domain hair white willow skin oil control balance shampoo.
