What Are The Benefits Of 5-HTP?

What is 5-hydroxytryptophan?

hydroxy-L-tryptophan appears as a white to yellowish powder to crystal. It is a natural amino acid and dietary supplement that acts as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid, a precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin, and an antagonist of reserpine. L-5-Hydroxytryptophan(L-5-HTP) can be used in the study of fibromyalgia, myoclonus, migraine, and cerebellar ataxia. It is a precursor to serotonin, which mainly affects mood and promotes happiness, but it also affects appetite, sleep cycles and pain perception. It can suppress appetite, reduce fat intake, reduce anxiety, control emotions, promote sleep, promote emotional and nervous system health.

Serotonin was first found in blood serum, also known as serotonin. It is widely present in mammalian tissues, especially in the cerebral cortex and synapses. It is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter. In peripheral tissues, serotonin is a strong vasoconstrictor and smooth muscle contraction stimulator. In the body, serotonin can be catalyzed by monoamine oxidase to form 5-hydroxychromoaldehyde and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, which are excreted in the urine.

Serotonin can react with acids to form crystalline salts. Serotonin, which is found in higher concentrations in brain tissue, is an important substance in regulating neural activity. Some body tissues can release serotonin when subjected to certain drugs, for example, one molecule of reserpine can make the affected tissue release hundreds of serotonin molecules, thus producing a series of physiological effects of reserpine.

As an autologous active substance, about 90% is synthesized and distributed in intestinal chromaffin cells, usually stored in cell particles together with ATP and other substances. Under the action of stimulating factors, 5-HT is released from the particles and dispersed into the blood, and is taken up and stored by platelets, which accounts for about 8% of the body. As a neurotransmitter, 5-HT is mainly distributed in the pineal gland and hypothalamus, and may be involved in the regulation of physiological functions such as pain, sleep and body temperature. The abnormal content and function of 5-HT in the central nervous system may be related to many diseases such as psychosis and migraine.

5-HT must be mediated by the corresponding receptor to produce its effect. The classification of 5-HT receptor is complex, and seven subtypes of 5-HT receptor have been found. 5-HT can have different pharmacological effects by activating different 5-HT receptor subtypes, but 5-HT itself has no clinical application value.

Repetitive electronic transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with a stimulation frequency of 1Hz (once per second) resulted in decreased dopamine function in the frontal cortex, increased dopamine function in the striatum and hippocampus, decreased serotonin (5-HT) 2 receptor in the frontal cortex, and increased 5-HT1A receptor in the frontal cortex and cingulate cortex, which could be considered to change serotonin receptor secretion.

As a class of antidepressants, animal experiments have shown that the deficiency of serotonin is related to the formation of alcohol dependence. SSRls can increase the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic space, thus reducing the degree of thirst for alcohol and reducing the amount of alcohol consumed by patients. Commonly used are citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline and so on. The dosage is generally higher than the antidepressant dosage. SSRls is more effective when alcohol dependent patients have depressive symptoms, which have been shown to increase cravings for alcohol. Clinical studies have confirmed that fluoxetine can improve symptoms of major depression, while also reducing alcohol consumption and increasing abstinence time.

Serotonin is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that has a wide range of functions in the human body, regulating pain, sleep, and body temperature, and is also used as an antidepressant, which strongly constricts blood vessels and stimulates smooth muscle contraction in peripheral tissues.

1.5 serotonin, also known as serotonin, is found in most mammalian tissues, especially in the cerebral cortex and in synapses, where it plays a major inhibitory role. Most are found in the pineal gland and hypothalamus, and are involved in regulating sleep and body temperature.

2. It also plays an important role in the central nervous system. Abnormal levels of serotonin can cause psychiatric disorders and migraines. Low content is easy to cause depression, suicide, alcoholism, etc. At the same time, this substance can produce pleasant emotions and affect brain activities such as mood and memory. Therefore, serotonin can also treat depression, alcohol dependence, etc., and can also enhance memory.

3. The distribution is less in the periphery, which mainly plays the function of constricting blood vessels and stimulating smooth muscle contraction.

It is important to note that serotonin levels are usually increased by taking serotonin receptor agonists such as sumaputan to treat acute migraine headaches; Cisapride and others strengthen gastrointestinal movement; Buspirone and other anti-anxiety; Fluoxetine hydrochloride and other antidepressants.
