Eriodictyol

It is a natural flavonoid compound, mainly extracted from the fruit of lemon (Rutaceae family) and plants of the genus *Cymbidium* (Lamiaceae family).

This substance appears as a pale yellow crystalline powder, readily soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in boiling water, hot ethanol, and glacial acetic acid, and soluble in dilute alkaline solutions. It possesses pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-radiation, lipid-lowering, and hypoglycemic effects, and is commonly used as a natural antioxidant in beverage, food, and wine processing. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis revealed high levels of eriodicin in *Cymbidium* leaves, trace amounts in stems, and no detection in roots.

Eriodictyol is mainly derived from citrus plants (such as lemon and grapefruit), mint leaves, and rosemary. Its chemical structure belongs to the flavanone subclass of flavonoids, with the molecular formula C15H12O6. It has typical hydroxyl substituents, giving it strong biological activity.

Chemical Properties

• It is almost insoluble in water, but readily soluble in organic solvents.
• It possesses a phenolic hydroxyl structure, which endows it with antioxidant and antibacterial chemical activities.

• Antioxidant Effects: Plant phenolic compounds (such as flavonoids and phenolic acids) generally possess strong antioxidant activity, capable of scavenging free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative damage, and helping to delay cell aging and prevent chronic diseases.
