Alpha-glucan oligosaccharides are low-polymerization sugars formed by multiple glucose molecules linked by α-glycosidic bonds. They are naturally found in small amounts in fermented grain foods, and industrially are mostly produced from starch through enzymatic hydrolysis. They have a stable molecular structure, a mild, slightly sweet taste, and are much less sweet and calorie-rich than sucrose. These substances are not easily broken down and absorbed by digestive enzymes in the small intestine. Once in the intestines, they can selectively nourish beneficial microorganisms, gently regulate the intestinal microecological environment, and help maintain normal intestinal metabolism. They do not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar, nor can they be used by harmful bacteria in the mouth to produce acid that corrodes teeth.
