What are the benefits of loquat leaf extract?
1. Antibacterial effects: Loquat leaf extract has inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, hemolytic streptococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

Chemical composition
Currently, the effective components isolated from loquat leaves mainly include volatile oils, triterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, flavonoids, polyphenols, organic acids, etc.
1. Volatile oils The main components of volatile oils are nerolidol and farnesol, as well as pinene, camphene, myrcene, para-cymene linalool and its oxides.
2. Triterpenoids There are more than a dozen triterpenoids in loquat leaf extracts, with ursane and oleanane pentacyclic triterpenoids being the most common. Ju Jianhua et al. isolated 6 triterpenoids from the n-butanol extract of loquat leaves, which were identified as oleanolic acid, 2α-hydroxyoleanolic acid, ursolic acid, 2α-hydroxyursolic acid, selmol acid and rosic acid. Ursolic acid, 2α-hydroxyursolic acid, potentilla acid, oleanolic acid, 3-cis-p-coumaroyl potentilla acid, 3-trans-p-coumaroyl potentilla acid, 3-O-cis-caffeoyl potentilla acid, 3-O-trans-p-coumaroyl potentilla acid, maslic acid, 3β, 6α, 19α-trihydroxyursul-12-ene-28-acid and other polyhydroxyursulane derivatives were isolated from the chloroform extract of loquat leaves.
3. Sesquiterpenes Sesquiterpenes are mainly sesquiterpenes and monocyclic sesquiterpenes. DeTommasi et al. also isolated 4 ionone glycosides from loquat leaves.
4. Flavonoids The aglycones of flavonoids are mainly kaempferol and quercetin. The glycosides are composed of 1 to 3 monosaccharides, the most common of which are glucose, rhamnose, galactose, and arabinose, and the connection position is mostly 3-position. In addition, acetylated flavonoid glycosides were also found. The loquat leaves were extracted with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and butanol in turn. The ethyl acetate component was separated and purified by various chromatographic separations, and the structures of three compounds were determined, namely kaempferol-3-O-α-L-(2", 4"-di-E-p-coumaryl) rhamnoside, kaempferol-3-O-α-L-(2", 4"-di-Z-p-coumaryl) rhamnoside, and kaempferol-3-O-α-L-(2", 4"-di-E-feruloyl) rhamnoside.
5. Polyphenols contain a variety of polyphenol compounds, whose parent nuclei are flavonoids and flavan-3-ols, mainly including Chorogenicacid, (-)epicatechin, Procyanidin B-2, Cinchonain Ia, Procyanidinoligomer, etc.
6. Organic acids contain organic acids such as tartaric acid, citric acid and malic acid.
Extraction process
The crushed loquat leaves are refluxed with ethanol to obtain an extract-like extract, and the ethanol is recovered. The extract is fully washed with water and dried to obtain a dry extract. The dry extract is dissolved with ethanol and decolorized. After the ethanol is recovered, the decolorized liquid is added with water to precipitate a large amount of precipitation. The pH value is adjusted to 2-2.5, the precipitate is separated and collected, and washed with water until neutral, and vacuum dried to obtain a crude extract whose main component is ursolic acid.
