Products Description
Aloe vera extract is a colorless to brown viscous liquid or yellow powder extracted from the leaves of plants such as Aloe vera (family Liliaceae) and
Aloe ferox. It mainly contains polysaccharides, anthraquinone compounds (such as aloin A, aloin B, and aloe-emodin), and amino acids as active ingredients. It possesses moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties and is widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry, such as as a mask base and health food additive.
Basic Components and Sources:
Aloe vera extract is mainly obtained from aloe vera leaves through pressing, soaking, or distillation. Its core components include:
1. Polysaccharides (such as acetylated mannan): Enhance the skin barrier and promote wound healing.
2. Anthraquinone compounds (such as aloin and aloe-emodin): Possess antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
3. Antioxidants (such as vitamins C and E): Neutralize free radicals and delay aging.
4. Amino acids and enzymes: Regulate skin metabolism and improve dryness and sensitivity.
Extraction Method
A method for extracting aloe vera extract, characterized by the following steps:
- 1) Selecting aloe vera leaves free from disease and spots, washing, drying, peeling, blanching, and baking, then pulverizing and sieving to obtain aloe vera powder. Soaking the aloe vera powder in an ethanol solution, followed by microwave extraction, filtration to obtain a first extract, solvent recovery, and a first concentrated extract, with the residue reserved;
- 2) Soaking the residue in a water-saturated n-butanol solution, followed by ultrasonic extraction, filtration to obtain a second extract, solvent recovery, and a second concentrated extract;
- 3) Mixing the first and second concentrated extracts, and drying to obtain the aloe vera extract;
The weight percentage of each component in the aloe vera extract is as follows: aloin 55-60%, polysaccharides 20-30%, organic acids 5-12%, and amino acids 3-6%, wherein the sum of the weight percentages of the four components is less than 100%.
What are the benefits?
Skin Care Benefits
- Moisturizing and Barrier Repair
Aloe vera extract contains polysaccharides (such as acetylated mannan), with a structure similar to hyaluronic acid. It can absorb moisture and form a water-locking film, enhancing the skin barrier function and improving dryness and flaking. Suitable for sensitive or damaged skin.
- Anti-inflammatory and Soothing
Aloe vera contains aloin and sterols that can inhibit the release of inflammatory factors (such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes), reducing redness and itching. It has a soothing effect on sunburn, insect bites, and minor burns.
- Promoting Wound Healing
Studies show that aloe vera extract can accelerate fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis, shorten wound healing time, and reduce scar formation.
Health Support Benefits
- Antioxidant and Anti-aging
Aloe vera is rich in polyphenols, vitamins C and E, and other antioxidants that can scavenge free radicals, delay cellular oxidative damage, and help prevent photoaging and skin sagging.
- Antibacterial and Anti-infective Properties
Anthraquinones in aloe vera (such as aloe-emodin) have inhibitory effects on common pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and can be used as an adjunct treatment for minor skin infections or oral ulcers.
- Immunomodulation
Some animal experiments have shown that aloe polysaccharides may enhance the body's immunity by activating macrophages and increasing lymphocyte activity, but the specific mechanisms still require further clinical validation.
Applications
Applications in Cosmetics
- Moisturizing and Hydrating: Rich in polysaccharides and amino acids, it locks in moisture, strengthens the skin barrier, and improves dryness.
- Anti-inflammatory and Soothing: Inhibits inflammatory factors (such as TNF-α and IL-1β), relieving dermatitis, eczema, acne, etc.
- Promoting Wound Healing: Stimulates fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis, used for the care of minor burns and sunburns.
- Antioxidant and Anti-aging: Scavenges free radicals, delays skin aging, and maintains elasticity and radiance.
- Sun Protection and Repair: Aloe vera extract has anti-UV properties and is commonly used in after-sun repair products.
- Immune Regulation: Activates macrophages and lymphocytes, enhancing skin resistance.
Common formulations include aloe vera gel, aloe vera masks, lotions, and facial cleansers, with a typical addition ratio of 2% to 8%.
Applications in the Medical Field
- Topical Preparations: Aloe vera gel and ointment are used to treat minor burns, scalds, insect bites, and skin inflammation.
- Oral Preparations: Aloe vera capsules are used to relieve constipation (anthraquinone components stimulate intestinal peristalsis), but long-term use is not recommended as it may cause electrolyte imbalance.
