Magnesium Myristate

Magnesium myristate, with the chemical formula C₂₈H₅₄MgO₄, is an organomagnesia compound composed of magnesium ions bonded to two molecules of myristic acid (tetradecanoic acid) via ionic bonds.

Its main characteristics and uses are as follows:

Physical Properties

• Usually a white, fine powder with a slippery feel. Soluble in hot water and hot ethanol, slightly soluble in cold ethanol, ether, and other organic solvents.

Functional Properties:

• Possesses excellent lubricating, dispersing, emulsifying, adhesive, and abrasion-resistant properties, improving the flowability and surface smoothness of materials.

Application Areas:

• Cosmetics Industry: Commonly used in makeup products such as pressed powder, eyeshadow, and blush as a binder and filler, improving pigment adhesion, spreadability, and abrasion resistance, resulting in longer-lasting and more natural makeup.

Lubrication and Anti-sticking Effects

In the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries, magnesium myristate is often used as a lubricant, anti-sticking agent, or flow aid. For example, in cosmetics such as pressed powder and loose powder, it improves the flowability and spreadability of the powder, making the product easier to apply and reducing clumping. In the pharmaceutical granulation process, it can help the granules flow better and compress into tablets, improving production efficiency.

Skin Care Adjunctive Effects

Due to its certain water absorption, softening, and surface smoothing properties, magnesium myristate may help improve skin texture in skin care products, making the skin feel softer and smoother.
