Pinellia ternata extract is a yellow powder extracted from the tuber of Pinellia ternata, a plant in the Araceae family. It mainly contains amino acids, β-sitosterol, pinellia protein, alkaloids, and volatile oils. Pinellia ternata, also known as Banyuelian, Sanbutiao, Dibadou, and Sanye Banxia, is the dried tuber of Pinellia ternata, named for its growth in May, when it is considered the middle of summer. It is pungent and warm in nature, and toxic, entering the lung, spleen, and stomach meridians. This herb is pungent, warm, and drying, making it an essential medicine for drying dampness and resolving phlegm, and warming and transforming cold phlegm. It is effective in treating damp phlegm in the internal organs; it is also an essential medicine for stopping vomiting, and can be used in combination with other herbs for vomiting caused by various reasons, especially suitable for vomiting due to phlegm retention or stomach cold. Pinellia ternata is pungent and dispersing, resolving phlegm and eliminating masses, and can also treat globus hystericus, phlegm-heat accumulation in the chest, and epigastric fullness; externally, it can reduce swelling and relieve pain, treating goiter, carbuncles, boils, and snake bites. *Pinellia ternata* is a perennial herb, 10-25 cm tall. Its underground tuber is spherical. Leaves emerge from the top of the tuber, 5-20 cm long, with a white bulbil on the inner side of the lower part of the petiole; one-year-old leaves are simple, ovate-cordate; leaves from two years onwards are compound, with three leaflets, the middle one larger and the two lateral ones smaller, with an acute apex, a cuneate base, entire margins, and glabrous. The spadix is terminal, with a green spathe 6-7 cm long; flowers are unisexual, monoecious; female flowers are below, male flowers above, white, with appendages extending from the central axis in a whip-like fashion, protruding beyond the spathe. The berry is ovoid-ellipsoid. Flowering occurs from June to July, and fruiting from August to September. It grows in shady, damp places under forest slopes.
