A study used an ethanol injection method combined with high-pressure homogenization to prepare CoQ10 liposomes, focusing on particle size, dispersibility, encapsulation efficiency, storage stability, and in vitro digestion characteristics, aiming to improve the stability and bioacceptability of traditional CoQ10 feedstocks.

The results showed that high-pressure homogenization significantly improved the physicochemical properties of CoQ10 liposomes.

 

After high-pressure homogenization, the liposome particle size decreased significantly, reaching approximately 130 nm under higher pressure conditions, while the polydispersity index decreased to 0.096, indicating better particle size uniformity and dispersibility.

The encapsulation efficiency remained around 96%, indicating that the homogenization process did not significantly affect the encapsulation effect of CoQ10.

 

Regarding stability, the liposome delivery system reduced the increase in acid value and peroxide value during storage, maintaining a high CoQ10 retention rate. This suggests that the liposome structure provides a certain degree of protection for CoQ10, contributing to improved storage stability. The study also found that higher high-pressure homogenization is not always better; appropriate process parameters are also crucial for maintaining liposome stability.

 

In vitro simulated digestion results showed that, compared to CoQ10 without liposome delivery, CoQ10 liposomes prepared by high-pressure homogenization exhibited significantly higher bioacceptability, reaching approximately 31.6%–32.0% under relevant treatment conditions, at least 20 times higher than the raw material, and more than 10% higher than the unoptimized liposome system. This indicates that liposome encapsulation combined with particle size optimization can improve the delivery performance of CoQ10 during digestion.

Conclusion: This study demonstrates that liposome encapsulation combined with high-pressure homogenization is a valuable CoQ10 delivery technology. By controlling liposome particle size, improving dispersibility, and enhancing encapsulation stability, the development challenges related to CoQ10 stability and bioacceptability can be addressed to some extent, providing research evidence for the application of liposomal coenzyme Q10 in food, nutritional supplements, and other products.
