Hericin is a diterpenoid compound isolated from the mycelium of Hericium erinaceus (monkey head mushroom). It is mainly found in the mycelium and is a class of low-molecular-weight bioactive substances.

Japanese researchers have discovered three diterpenoid compounds from Hericium erinaceus mycelium that promote the synthesis of nerve growth factor. Currently, 25 diterpenoid compounds have been isolated from Hericium erinaceus.
