They are found in both the mycelium and fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum fungi and possess various biological activities, including lowering blood sugar and lipids, antithrombosis, antioxidation, free radical scavenging, anti-aging, anti-radiation, promoting blood circulation, and regulating immunity. The process involves crushing Ganoderma lucidum fruiting bodies, adding a small amount of culture medium for fermentation, centrifuging the raw material, concentrating the supernatant under low-temperature vacuum, dialysis, ethanol precipitation, washing with acetone to remove protein, spray drying, and finally adding 10% water to extract the dry powder. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides are light brown to brownish-red powders, soluble in hot water. Their biological activity is related to the linkage mode, branching degree, number of hydroxyl substitutions on the branches, extraction agent, monosaccharide composition, and relative molecular mass. They are typically linked in β-(1→3), β-(1→6) or β-(1→3), β-(1→4) arrangements, and only those with a relative molecular mass above 1 × 10^4 exhibit biological activity.
