What Is Decapeptide-12?
Decapeptide-12 is a new type of synthetic oligopeptide. Its peptide sequence contains 2 tyrosines, 2 arginines and 3 serines. These amino acids have a strong inhibitory effect on the activity of tyrosinase sex. Therefore it can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, thereby effectively reducing the synthesis of melanin. According to studies by Anan Abu Ubeid and others, compared with hydroquinone, it has a stronger ability to inhibit intracellular tyrosinase and is not toxic.

YTBIO supplies decapeptide-12 with a purity of ≥95% (HPLC). We own our own factory, and all production processes strictly adhere to international certification systems such as cGMP, FSSC22000, BRC, HALAL, KOSHER, ISO9001, and ISO22000. We support small-sample testing and flexible MOQ.

What are the benefits?
Decapeptide-12 binds reversibly to tyrosinase, an enzyme found in many different pigment-producing cells. It prevents tyrosinase from catalyzing the oxidation of phenols, the first step in melanin production. In mammals, tyrosinase is found only in melanosomes, specialized compartments in pigment-producing cells. Tyrosinase is absent across species and, in fact, its structure can vary greatly even between closely related species. In humans, differences in the efficiency of tyrosinase, which determine skin color, are the result of a slight modification of the TYR gene found on chromosome 11.
A prospective animal study looked at the safety and efficacy of topical decapeptide-12 in photodamage and found it significantly reduced skin hyperpigmentation. In fact, nearly 40% of subjects in the study achieved baseline skin tone (100% reduction in pigmentation), and 15% moved from Grade 3 to Grade 1 photodamage. Those with the most photodamage (grade 4) experienced only moderate improvement to grade 3 after 12 weeks of use. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study, 100% of melasma patients experienced a statistically significant change in skin color (photodamage).
Decapeptide-12 was approximately 17 times more effective in treating hyperpigmentation than previous treatments, including hydroquinone. Studies performed on melanocytes cultured for 7 days showed a reduction in melanin content of 27%, 6-43%. After numerous animal tests, it may eventually be incorporated into commercial products for the treatment of hyperpigmentation.
Application direction
Decapeptide-12 powder is used as a product, which can be added in the final stage of cosmetic production, or mixed with skin care products after dissolving and applied. It is easy to operate and highly safe. Commonly used in brightening cream, brightening foundation, pressed powder, freckle cream (sunburn, freckles)

Common Products:
Whitening Essence, Spot-Fading Cream: Targets melasma, sun spots, age spots, etc.
Spot-Removing Ampoules, Freeze-Dried Powder: For short-term intensive repair.
Whitening Repair Products: Formulated with anti-inflammatory and repairing ingredients.
Brightening Products: Synergistically enhanced with niacinamide, vitamin C, arbutin, etc.
Recommended dosage: 50-500 ppm. Please determine the specific dosage based on relevant regulations and product positioning.
Decapeptide-12: Relevant Research Data
A clinical study of 30 Chinese patients with melasma evaluated the efficacy of a brightening product containing decapeptide-12. Subjects used the product continuously for 6 to 8 weeks and were evaluated after 3 months of treatment.
Results showed an overall effective rate of 86.7%, with 16.7% of patients experiencing complete fading of melasma and 46.7% experiencing significant improvement. During the subsequent 6-month follow-up, only 16.7% of subjects experienced mild recurrence, and no significant adverse reactions were observed throughout the study. The study concludes that decapeptide-12 has a good therapeutic effect on facial melasma in the Chinese population and a good safety profile.

Transdermal Absorption Studies
Depth penetration of decapeptide-12 presents challenges due to its hydrophilicity and high molecular weight. Palmitoylation (increasing lipid solubility), chemical penetration enhancers (oleic acid, menthol), and microneedling techniques can be employed to improve skin penetration and retention.
Studies have shown that palmitoylation-modified decapeptide-12 exhibits the best retention in the skin.
