Birch bark extract is a mixture of active substances isolated from birch bark, with betulin being the most representative core component. This is a lupinane-type pentacyclic triterpenoid compound with the chemical formula C30H50O2. It is a white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in cold water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. As the most abundant active ingredient in birch bark (up to 30% by dry weight), it is often obtained through supercritical carbon dioxide fluid extraction technology and is widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries, exhibiting anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and potential anti-tumor biological activities.
