What is Cranberry extract Powder?
Cranberry extract powder contains natural flavonoids and proanthocyanidins, which can restore the vitality of collagen and make the skin smooth and elastic. It is a natural sunscreen that can prevent ultraviolet rays from damaging the skin. It has excellent antioxidant function, can resist aging, protect cardiovascular health, and can effectively prevent and assist in the treatment of urinary tract infections in adult women.
Chemical composition
1. Proanthocyanidins: Proanthocyanidins are a general term for a large class of polyphenol compounds widely found in various plants. Their structure is a polymer of catechins, epicatechins, or catechins and epicatechins. Current research has shown that the A-type proanthocyanidins unique to cranberries are the main antibacterial components in cranberries, while the B-type proanthocyanidins found in grapes, tea, and apples do not have similar effects. Proanthocyanidins in cranberries contain one or more A-type flavanoid bonds. They are mainly oligomers or polymers of epicatechin and epigallocatechin.
2. Anthocyanidins: They are the products of glycosylation of anthocyanidin aglycones, mainly including anthocyanidin-3-galactoside, anthocyanidin-3-arabinoside, and methyl anthocyanidin-3-galactoside.
3. Flavonols: Various flavonol compounds such as hyperoside, quercetin, myricetin, and quercetin.
4. Phenolic acids: mainly include benzoic acid and cinnamic acid.
5. Others: pectin, ellagic acid, resveratrol, lignans, ursolic acid, tocotrienols and ω-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, minerals.
Pharmacological Activity
(1) Cranberry extract helps inhibit the growth and reproduction of a variety of pathogenic bacteria, prevents these pathogens from adhering to cells in the body (such as urinary tract epithelial cells), prevents and controls urinary tract infections in women, and inhibits Helicobacter pylori infection;
(2) Helps maintain the integrity of the bladder wall and maintains a normal pH value in the urethra;
(4) Reduces cardiovascular aging lesions;
(5) Anti-aging, prevents Alzheimer's disease;
(6) Beauty, maintains youthful and healthy skin.
Efficacy research
1. Anti-infection effect: According to domestic and foreign literature reports, to exert the antibacterial effect of cranberry extract, the recommended daily dosage of cranberry proanthocyanidins is 36-108 mg. Cranberries have a history of more than 500 years of consumption. They are still widely consumed as traditional food ingredients in North America in the form of jams, juices, pies, etc., and no side effects have been found. At the same time, cranberries use the effect of reducing bacterial adhesion to achieve the purpose of anti-infection. The mechanism of action is completely different from that of antibiotics and will not produce drug resistance. Cranberries also contain a variety of active ingredients and trace elements that are beneficial to human health, which is more beneficial to human health.
(1) The most common pathogenic bacteria for urinary tract infection (UTI) are Gram-negative rods, among which Escherichia coli is the most common, accounting for 80% to 90% of acute urinary tract infections, followed by Escherichia coli, Proteus, Klebsiella, Aerobacterium, Alcaligenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The A-type linked proanthocyanidins in cranberries have a very unique structure, which can conflict with the exogenous lectins of bacterial cilia, so that bacteria cannot bind to cell receptors. Through this competitive inhibition, it exerts effective anti-bacterial adhesion properties, preventing pathogens such as Escherichia coli from adhering to the epithelial cells of the urethra and the bladder wall. The pathogens flow away with urine, thereby preventing the occurrence of urinary tract infections. To confirm the existence of cranberry's antibacterial effect, domestic and foreign researchers have used cranberry juice, cranberry concentrate, and cranberry extract to conduct antibacterial experiments on several Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and obtained different degrees of antibacterial effects.
(2) Elimination of Helicobacter pylori Helicobacter pylori infection is the main pathogenic factor of chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and gastric cancer. A large number of studies have shown that more than 90% of duodenal ulcers and about 80% of gastric ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. In 1994, the World Health Organization/International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO/IARC) classified Helicobacter pylori as a Class I carcinogen. The adhesion of Helicobacter pylori is a necessary condition for its colonization in the gastric mucosal epithelium. Cranberries make it difficult for Helicobacter pylori in the stomach to adhere to the gastric wall cells, thereby preventing the bacteria that cause gastric infection from multiplying in the gastric wall and being excreted from the body. This kind of daily diet can inhibit the adhesion of bacteria to gastric mucosal epithelial cells, which will be a good alternative to drug treatment.
(3) Inhibition of oral bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis is the main cause of periodontitis. The latest research shows that although cranberry type A proanthocyanidins cannot reduce bacterial reproduction, it is a strong inhibitor of gingival biofilm formation, reducing the ability of Porphyromonas gingivalis to colonize the periodontium, and can play a beneficial role in preventing and treating periodontitis. In addition, other experiments have also shown that type A proanthocyanidins have a similar effect on Candida albicans.
2. Antioxidant effect: The proanthocyanidins contained in cranberries are the most effective antioxidants, with an antioxidant capacity of 20 times that of VC and 50 times that of VE. In the experiment on the effect of cranberry on the antioxidant function of aging mice and irradiated mice, domestic researchers gave different doses of cranberry powder to two model mice of natural aging and irradiation for 30 days, and measured the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the blood and liver tissue of mice. The results showed that cranberry improved the antioxidant capacity of the body in both natural aging and irradiated model mice. In addition, foreign researchers recently conducted experiments on lipopolysaccharide-induced high cholesterol mice and found that the average level of total phenol in plasma decreased significantly when lipopolysaccharide was injected, while total phenol tended to rise after adding cranberry powder to the food, and the situation of SOD in plasma was similar. The results show that cranberry powder may have a certain antioxidant capacity and weaken the oxidative state of mice with high cholesterol induced by lipopolysaccharide.
3. Effect on type II diabetes: Animal experiments have found that long-term cranberry supplementation can prevent the decline of basal plasma insulin caused by age. A randomized double-blind clinical trial of 58 patients with type 2 diabetes found that taking one cup of cranberry juice daily could effectively lower blood sugar and apolipoprotein B, and increase apolipoprotein A1 and serum paraoxonase 1 activity.
